Power Flying at the Whams

In 1988 the club was given the opportunity to buy it's own flying field known as The Whams. This is situated near Ingbirchworth, in open countryside with the nearest house being over a kilometre away. Planning permission for the flying of model aircraft at most times of the day, seven days a week was obtained from the local council. Although the field was bought with the intention of it being used for all the main disciplines of flying it is primarily now used for fixed wing RC aircraft and helicopter flying - See Helicopters page

The Whams is a triangular shaped field and this allows us to have two main runways, one in an East-West direction and the other North-South. Recently the club has purchased some more land and this has been used to create a purpose built hard surface for car parking.

A recent welcome addition to the Whams site has been a new large cabin for members to rest and shelter in. This cabin was kindly donated by Mrs G Black in memory of her late husband Martin who was a very active member of the club as well as being a Trustee.

Over the years all types of model have flown at the Whams including multi engine scale, ducted fan and more recently gas turbine jets.

If you fly at the Whams and have some nice photos then feel free to send them to me and I'll add them to the page.
