HDMAC has a large number of members interested in flying model helicopters and in accordance with club policy these are welcome to be flown on the The Whams flying field
Experience has shown however that it is not practical to fly helicopters in the same airspace as fixed wing models, both on aircaft safety grounds and the for the security and comfort of the pilots.
The club have therefore arranged with the local farmer that helicopters may be flown at any time in a special area across the stream at the Whams, which is a no-fly zone for fixed wing models due to the proximity of the car park and the proposed construction of large wind turbines.
Helicopters using this area must use only 2.4 Ghz equipment to avoid any danger of interference with fixed wing models and must use the general pegboard provided.
Helicopters using both 35 MHz and 2.4GHz equipment may fly on the normal Whams field in slots by mutual agreement with fixed wing flyers, but helicopters and fixed wing aircraft should not be flown at the same time due to safety considerations.
Beginners should contact the Helicopter Secretary who will be happy to provide advice on the setting up, Flying and safety aspects of the hobby together with flying instruction.
