The Club Flying Sites are all on Privately owned land and access is restricted to club members or their guests only. Any visitors wishing to make use of these facilities must please first contact the Club Secretary to obtain permission and be issued with a Guest Frequency Control Clip.

THE WHAMS

 

THE CLUB OWNED FLYING FIELD

The Whams Flying Field and Access Path is privately owned by the Club. 
As such it is open to ALL types of model aircraft flying by Members or Guests ONLY.

A new fitted out cabin with heater is available for use in inclement weather.

 

LOCATION 

Altitude 320 metres (1050 ft.)    O.S. Ref. 195057 

Browns Edge Road, Maythorn, near Ingbirchworth, Huddersfield.        

Take the A629 from Huddersfield towards Sheffield. Pass the A635 junction continuing on the A629 for 1 Mile, come to Birds Edge village and turn right immediately by the school. Proceed to the T junction and turn left. Take the 2nd road on the right (after 1 mile), Browns Edge Road. Arrive at the Flying site after half a mile on the left. 
The Whams is a field within a field.  

The club has recently made a large car park area next to the field and pits area. To access this drive along the track and obey the signed instructions before fully proceeding.
Keep all the Gates securely closed at all times.  Livestock may be in the field out of sight.

KEYS FOR THE GATE

These are available from the Membership Secretary, Dave Sykes, at a cost of £3.

One key per member.

 

 

FREQUENCY CONTROL  -  Important

Due to the proximity of the Club Gliding sites at Tinkers and Sledbrook Brow, 
only the following frequencies are permitted at The Whams for 35MHz transmissions.

35MHz - Odd Frequencies EXCLUDING  55 - 57 - 59

2.4GHz - All Frequencies may be used  (See Pegboard Rule below)

In addition the following 27MHz frequencies (including splits), are allowed:

Black/Brown (26.975),  Yellow (27.145),  Yellow/Green (27. 175)

Green (27. 195),  Blue (27.255),  Green/Blue (27.22)

Frequency Control and Safety is the responsibility of all members using the site.

 

PEGBOARD
A pegboard is available in the Pits Area.  This MUST be used at ALL TIMES when Flying.
Members MUST exchange their Membership Name Clip with the Frequency Clip from the Pegboard BEFORE Flying or
switching on their transmitters.
This Rule also applies to all 2.4GHz Equipment in order to assure fellow flyers and to comply with Planning Permissions regulating the number of aircraft in the air at any time.

An Electronic Frequency Monitor and E-Pegboard is also available.

NO CLIP - NO FLY ! And Do Not Switch On.   

Members must fly their models from the Flight Line and avoid overflying the Pits area.

Members must not fly their models over the road at a height of less than 50ft 
(i.e. Fly ABOVE the hillside horizon).

Members must refrain from flying their models whilst any work is taking place on the field.

 

TIMES OF USE    (Laid down in Planning Regulations)

Thermal / Slope Soarers and Electric powered models :- UNRESTRICTED USE.

Powered Models (I/C engine):

Sundays     10 a.m. to 6 p.m.     10 models maximum in use.

Saturdays  10 a.m. to 6 p.m.     10 models maximum in use.

Weekdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.       3 models maximum in use.

Weekdays   5 p.m. to 8 p.m.     10 models maximum in use.

 

 

  

SLEDBROOK BROW

 

THERMAL SOARING SITE

The Thermal Soaring site at Sledbrook Brow is available by permission of the Dunford Parish Council.  
The Club enjoys unlimited access to the land provided the conditions below are met.

ft.)    O.S. Ref. 179

 

Leave Huddersfield on the A616 Sheffield Road.  Continue through New Mill on the A616 climbing continuousluntil reaching the Summit Crossroads with Bedding Edge Road and The Victoria Inn on the left.  
The entrance to the site is 50 metres on the left.

Vehicles may be parked neatly inside the entrance.

 

FREQUENCY CONTROL  -  Important

Due to the proximity of the Club sites at The Whams and Cheesegate Nab / Tinkers
only the following Frequencies are permitted at Sledbrook Brow for 35MHz transmissions.

35MHz - 55 - 57 - 59 - 84 - 86 - 88 - 9

2.4GHz - All Frequencies may be used.

No 27MHz frequencies (including splits), are allowed:

 

LOCAL RULES

All the Club General Rules apply to this site.

We do not have exclusive use of this field.  If other users have booked the field, then we can fly at the bottom of the field only with their consent.  We must not fly over or endanger other users.

Only Hand, Bungee or Winch launched Gliders or Electric models which cause no nuisance may be flown.
No IC Models are permitted.

Cars may be driven onto the field and parked a safe distance from the launching and landing areas.

Permitted Frequencies are as listed above.  No other Frequencies may be used.

Before switching on a Transmitter the pilot must check that the frequency is clear and obtain the    Frequency Clip from the Pegboard when it is in use.

When ready to launch a model, the pilot must alert other fliers / spectators by calling "Launching".  
Make sure that spectators can not be endangered.

Models may be flown anywhere over the field and surrounding areas, but care must be taken to maintain a safe distance (vertically and horizontally) from the Power lines, the Clubhouse and the Main Road.  
Before landing a model, the pilot must alert other fliers / spectators by calling "Landing".

Members have permission to retrieve models landing in the fields immediately to the North and East of the site.  Permission must be sought from the Farmer / Owner before retrieving from elsewhere.

 

RESTRICTIONS

NO I/C engine powered models are permitted on the site.
